A Second Chance at Redemption
Sharn, the City of Towers, is located where the Hilt meets the Dagger River. A major settlement has existed on this spot since before recorded history. The current metropolis reaching into the sky is founded on the ruins of these ancient civilizations. Over millenia, the towers have grown, rising thousands of feet into the air.
Sharn is the largest city in Khorvaire, and is an economic and cultural center for Breland, despite not being the capital.
Neighbourhoods of Sharn
The city is built on a plateau cut into 5 distinct regions. These regions form the main neighbourhoods of Sharn. In addition, each neighbourhood is further split based on elevation. There is an Upper, Middle and Lower portion of each region. Typically, the wealthiest citizens and businesses congregate in the Upper City.
The Central Plateau is the heart of Sharn. The upper levels host the government and the finance districts. The middle levels house the Dragonmarked Houses’ enclaves. Because of it’s location, residential neighbourhoods are highly prized, and the market places are very busy.
Menthis Plateau is the entertainment hub of the city. The Upper portion is home to Morgrave University, and is a mix of various races and nationalities. There are no walls around Menthis, but the highest towers form a ring around the plateau.
Dura is the oldest and largest region of Sharn. Dura covers the west expance of the plateau, rising out of the ruins of the ancient city. Dura sits above the majority of the Depths and the Cogs. It’s proximity to Cliffside makes Dura the heart of port trade.
However, many today consider Dura a relict of the past. The quarter is riddled with crime and poverty, as it is the home to the majority of the lower class. Lower Dura is not much better than the Cogs; merely a slum for poor working citizens. There is a large population of immigrants from Darguun and Droaam in Lower Dura.
Northedge is the most residential quarter of Sharn. In Upper Northedge you’ll find penthouses with amazing views; in Lower Northedge tightly packed apartments that rarely see the light. Overall, Northedge is a very quiet neighbourhood with little activity or crime. There is a marketplace in Lower Northedge, the North Market.
Tavick’s Landing on the eastern edge of the city, is the heart of the travel and trade in Sharn. It has the terminus of the Lightning Rail and the Trade Road. Upper and Middle Tavick’s Landing have a variety of trades and services. The Lower districts feature garrisons, red light districts, and a slum built for refugees of the Last War.
Tavick’s Landing is the strangest of the quarters, eclectic in its residents and visitors.
